O bairro
The Bairro Alto neighborhood embodies the bohemian soul of Lisbon. Frequented by artists, intellectuals, and designers, but also by Lisboetas who live from generation to generation. The decor of this neighborhood evolves according to two distinct facets; a lively neighborhood by day, and a livelier nightlife. During the day, we discover a colorful and peaceful neighborhood. The entertainment takes place on the terraces of the restaurants, where the smell of traditional cuisine emanates. On Rua do Norte, fashion boutiques are sprouting up. In the evenings, the streets fill up with passers-by from all over the world, happily lounging in Porto bars or at a live music concert. Being located on a slightly quieter street in the neighborhood, this charming apartment with a balcony in Lisbon takes advantage of the best of both facets of this romantic district. On the other hand, there are important cultural venues nearby, such as the Testro do Bairro located at 63 Luz Soriano, which has promoted many Lusitanian artists, such as the famous film director António Pires. The other exceptional place, a stone's throw away from the apartment, is the Palácio de Pombal, located on Rua do Século. Also known as Palácio dos Carvalhos, it was built at the beginning of the 17th century by the father of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, better known as the Marquis of Pombal. On the same street, you'll be impressed by the baroque architecture of the imposing Convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição dos Cardais, founded in 1681 as a Barefoot Carmelite Women's Monastery. After a long visit, a relaxing break in Bairro Alto's BA Wine Bar is served with a cheese and sausage board, accompanied by a glass of Portuguese wine. For a more gastronomic getaway with more exotic flavors, excellent restaurants can be found near the apartment, such as El Clandestino (Mexican cuisine), Bonsai (Japanese cuisine), and Asiàtico (Asian cuisine from Vietnam and Nepal).
