O bairro
Located between the neighborhoods of Estrela and Amoreiras, with the former known for its beautiful basilica, and the latter known for its famous shopping mall. What was once farmland was turned into a residential neighborhood in 1879. Today, it’s a mix of beautiful Art Nouveau, late-19th-century buildings, and architecture from the 20th century. It hosts only a handful of tourist attractions, but many tourists go past it on the way to tram 28’s last stop. A lovely little park, the Jardim da Parada, can also be found in the center of the neighborhood which invites locals of all ages during the day. Local Attractions: BASILICA DA ESTRELA A basilica from 1790, which is one of the city’s most beautiful monuments, inside and out. It's a baroque and neoclassical building built by Queen Maria I in 1790 to commemorate the birth of her son. MERCADO DE CAMPO DE OURIQUE Open since 1934, this market is one of the city’s most popular dining destinations. It hosts a variety of fresh fish and vegetables with several shops facing the exterior where you can buy pastries, pizza, sushi, seafood and more at for dinner! AMOREIRAS 360º Panoramic views from the observation deck at the top of the Amoreiras shopping mall, one of the city's tallest buildings. CEMITÉRIO DOS PRAZERES The largest cemetery in Lisbon which hosts Europe’s largest tomb. It was built in 1833 after the outbreak of a cholera epidemic. AQUEDUTO DAS ÁGUAS LIVRES The monumental aqueduct that survived the 1755 earthquake, just a short walk from Amoreiras. JARDIM DA ESTRELA The romantic garden situated right across the Basilica da Estrela, popular among friends, families, and lovers. PROCÓPIO One of the city's oldest bars, with a charming Art Nouveau décor. It’s modeled after French bistros with its curious Art Nouveau décor. It is the elder brother of Parodia, Foxtrot and Pavilhão Chinês Lisbon pubs. MUSEU ARPAD SZENES - VIEIRA DA SILVA The museum dedicated to the art of one of Portugal’s greatest artists of all time.
