The neighbourhood
The neighborhood of Bairro Alto embodies the bohemian soul of Lisbon. Frequented by artists, intellectuals, designers but also by the Lisboans who have lived there from generation after generation. The decor of this neighborhood evolves according to two distinct facets; A neighborhood life by day, and a more lively nightlife. During the day, we discover a colorful and quiet district. Animations are made on the edges of the restaurant terraces that emanate the smell of traditional cuisine, but also near the Rua do Norte, where trendy fashion boutiques flourish. At night, the streets fill with passerby’s from all over the world, who live happily in bars in Porto or at the bend of a live concert. Because it is located in a slightly quieter street of this district, this charming apartment with balcony in Lisbon, enjoys the best of both facets of this romantic neighborhood. On the other hand, there are important cultural places nearby, such as the Bairro Theater located at number 63 Luz Soriano which has promoted many of Lusitano artist, such as the famous film producer António Pires. The other exceptional place, just a step away from the apartment, is the Palace of Pombal, located on Rua do Século. Also known as Palace dos Carvalhos, it was erected at the beginning of the XVII century by the great father of Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, better known under the title of Marquis of Pombal. On the same street, you will be amazed by the baroque architecture of the imposing Convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição dos Cardais, founded in 1681 as a female monastery of Carmelites with naked feet. After a long visit, a relaxing break at the BA Wine Bar do Bairro Alto is imposed around local cheese or charcuterie, accompanied by a glass of local Portuguese wine. For a more gastronomic getaway with more exotic flavors, excellent restaurants are found near the apartment, such as El Clandestino (Mexican cuisine), Bonsai (Japanese cuisine) and Asiàtico (Asian cuisine from Vietnam to Nepal).
