The neighbourhood
Odivelas is one of the newest municipalities in Portugal, located in the District of Lisbon, Region of Extremadura. It 's part of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, bordered by the municipalities of Amadora, Lisbon, Loures and Sintra. Although it is a quiet area, the Municipality has a lot of cultural places to offer, such as: ANTA DE PEDRAS GRANDES: A National Monument, this dolmen as a chamber, formed by 7 stands and a small corridor turned to the southwest. This structure is composed by large limestone blocks and was used as a funerary space during the 4th – 3rd Millennia B.C.. MOSTEIRO DE S. DINIS E S. BERNARDO Founded by King D. Dinis, at the end of the 13th century, this monastery was built between 1295 and 1305, in his Quinta de Vale de Flores, in Odivelas. Classified as a National Monument, the tomb of D. Dinis, is located in one of the apsidiole of the church of the monastery. D. Dinis expressed in his second testament of June 20th 1322 the will for his body to be buried in the tomb he had ordered to be built.
