The neighbourhood
Ericeira is a fisherman village, next to Mafra and just a short drive away from Lisbon. Ericeira is regarded by some as being Europe's Surf Mecca, due to the exceptional coastline conditions for the practice of Surf. It is home for Ericeira's World Surfing Reserve, the first in Europe and the second in the world, The villages traditional architecture, food, and décor can be found on every little street in the village and will provide you with a unique Portuguese experience! Come and walk around the winding alleys, visit the pristine beaches, historic churches, and traditional restaurants that serve amazing seafood. You will certainly have a fantastic time here! Fun fact: Near Ericeira you will find the amazing village of Mafra, with the National Deer Ranch, a protected natural park, built as a leisure park for the King João V and his court, and the Mafra's National Palace, also known as The Royal Convent of Mafra, the best example of baroque architecture in Portugal. We certainly recommend visiting this area as well!
Getting around
To explore the nearby towns, hiring a rental car, or using an Uber, is a great way to go. It will allow you to access many remote beaches or that have little or no public transport options. In the center of Ericeira you can find a lot of bus stops that will take you to Mafra and Sintra.
